Dear Parent I had almost forgotten what it was like to scrape the window first thing in the morning as we have had so few frosty starts to the day. This week has been so variable. We have had wet breaks, frost, rainy starts and brilliant sunshine! The children have coped admirably. At least they made use of the new DVD player we bought for the hall when they could not get out to play!
KS1 Liturgy of the Word Thank you to Fr Tony and our younger pupils for leading the Liturgy on Monday. They did well.
Football Match Our team played against St Michael’s on Tuesday afternoon and won 7-1. A report from Jacob Donnellan and Roman Carvell: ‘We led all the way Roman scored 3 goals, Jacob 1, Alexis 1 and Youhanna 2. We had a strong defence and Jamie saved the only penalty.’ Well done to: Alexis Atmadjov, Roman Carvell, Dominic Donnellan, Jacob Donnellan, Youhanna Farah, Danny Millward, Jamie Morgan, Martin Porter, Freddy Richardson and Ewan Waters.
Mr Peck’s Football Training No football training this Wednesday as we have a match against St Teresa’s on Thursday.
Netball Club Sorry no Netball training on Tuesday as I am on a course.
Art Project 8 of our Y4 pupils have been invited to take part in a special project in preparation for the Olympics. They spent the day with an artist here at the school on Tuesday. A report from Annie and Patrick: ‘We were given a map of Colchester and we had to draw some shops, buses and cars and the art gallery on it. Then we painted some of our favourite things like animals. We did art all day and it was great!’
Lost Property A cream knitted ‘Superdry’ hat with yellow logo badge went missing from the school hall last week. The hat was a Christmas present. If anyone finds it please return to the office. Many thanks.
Cross Country
Year 5 & 6 teams ran yesterday at the Garrison Club... and with much success! Aoife came in 1st for the Year 6 Girls’ race, Roman 5th for the Year 6 Boys. Romilly came in 19th for the Year 5 Girls and Danny 7th for the Year 5 Boys. There were around 80 – 100 in each race so you can see how well they did. The Year 6 team came 3rd overall and gained medals! Brilliant! A special thank you to Mia Patterson for joining us at the last minute to make the team. Well done to: Alexis Atmadjov, Brooke Bastow, Romilly Blacker, Roman Carvell, Andrew Corner, William Corner, Isobel Edwards, Ella Haskell, Aoife Kennedy, Danny Millward, Mia Patterson, Ernald Pelayo, Martin Porter, Morgan Rampling, Freddy Richardson, Bethany Reid, Tom Reid and Ewan Waters.
Can you help? Mrs Parker would appreciate any donations of the following: tights and socks for the ‘spares cupboard’ Lego DVDs for wet playtimes Thank you!

Academy Status Update We had two responses to our consultation – one very positive and one raising a few questions. The Governors met on Wednesday night and have decided to go ahead with a formal application to the Diocese and to the DfE. It is hoped that if we do convert it will be completed before September 2012.
We discussed many important issues at the Governors’ meeting; Our name! We were all in agreement that our name stays the same and will not include ‘Academy’ in the title. Our Catholicity will not change – we are first and foremost a Catholic School and Admissions to the school will be the same i.e. preference to practising Catholics. Uniform – we have no plans to alter the uniform. We are very proud of the one we have. All schools may review/change their uniform and this option remains the same whether we are an Academy or not. Support for another school will never reduce the quality of the provision we give to our children. We have been offering the same support for 3 years now and in that time our results have got better and better. If it ever got to the point that this school would suffer as a result of us supporting another school we would have to review/stop the support we were able to offer until we had the capacity to start again. Our school comes first and always will. I will keep you updated.
Birthday Treats Thank you very much for sending treats in for the class when it is your child’s birthday. They love giving them out at the end of the school day! Individual items that can be given out easily like snack size chocolate bars, sweets and cupcakes are fine but please do not send in whole birthday cakes which need cutting up, wrapping etc. Many thanks with this one!
