Dear Parent
Dear Parent I hope you all had a wonderful half term break. The holiday continued for Mrs Snell. Mr Peck and me into a second week of sunshine, rest and relaxation on the south coast with the Year 6 school journey! Well maybe not so much rest and relaxation but late nights, very early mornings and nonstop days!! It has been wonderful so far (we return this evening) and the children have been a credit to us all. They have been an excellent group to be with, no arguments, no fallouts and no homesickness who could ask for more. The week has been dry apart from one short deluge which lasted 15 minutes.
Once again Mrs Hayes would like to thank Mr Moriarty for actually spotting the deliberate spelling mistakes in her school journey reports. It made the effort (and it is an effort to deliberately spell incorrectly!) worthwhile.
Y6 Trip Year 6 will be spending the morning on Wednesday at the Marks Tey Hotel learning about topics such as fire safety, electrical safety, stranger danger, railway crossings, keeping safe etc. I am sure it will be very worthwhile.
End of School Day It is really unusual for children to make their way home or part way home at the end of the school day on their own in any class other than Y6. Even in Y6 it is not common practice. I have been made aware of 2 children in Y3 who are meeting parents in Priory St at the end of the day. In my opinion this is far too young. Just to remind you all that any request for a child to walk out of school without an adult must be made in writing and children should know what to do if parents are not there to meet them.
Mobile phones should not be brought to school unless your child walks to school alone. In this case we are happy to look after them in the office during the day. Please do not allow them to bring them to school if they travel to school with an adult or by school transport. Thank you.
Essex Wildlife Essex Wildlife visited Year 3 & 4 on Wednesday. A report from Katie Zoltan: ‘We started off the day with Laura explaining all about plants. She took us outside to play a game, Annie and Alfie were birds and the rest of us were seeds. We were told the five things a plant needs and Laura had made tokens for us to collect with these things on them. We had to get the tokens before the birds caught us; the seeds that got caught went in the ‘compost heap’! The seeds that collected all 5 tokens then grew into plants. We used a branch to make leaf shooters and beads, we went on a leaf hunt and made leaf perfume and lit a fire. We did lots more too and it was a really great day.’

Mini Olympics Yesterday Year 2 went to the Garrison to take part in a Mini Olympics Festival. They were representing Canada (of course). A report from John and Madeleine: ‘We did some activities around the athletics track, John got a gold medal for sprinting and Madeleine got two bronze medals for jumping and throwing. Francesca won a silver medal. Lots of other schools came along and we did a special dance with them at the closing ceremony. We thought that we were a good team for our school and we had a brilliant time.’ Punctuality Award Just to let you know how the classes are doing here are the lates this week: Rec 5 Y1 3 Y2 7 Y3 2 Y4 6 Y5 3 Y6 0!
