Issue 23 - 25 March 2011 Dear Parent I expect the weather will be quite changeable for the next few weeks but it has been lovely to get some sunshine. What a difference it makes to us all when we can get out and enjoy the warmth of the sun. The children have really been enjoying their breaktimes and it is great to see them starting to use the field again. Now that it is warming up, they are of course stripping off so please, please make sure the jumpers and cardigans are named. Easter Decorations Thank you so much to Mrs Lavelle for the Easter wreath and the pots of daffodils for the front desk. They look lovely and have been commented upon by most visitors and the eggs on the tree …. very creative. Lenten Mass The whole school went to Mass yesterday as part of our Lenten observance. The children read and sang well. Many thanks to Fr. Tony. Our focus this week has been on ‘respect for things’, how we take care of our belongings, tidy up after ourselves and look after our classroom, bedroom etc. You may have noticed a whole new child at home. If not, I would suggest they practise this for yet another week! The whole point being that we are lucky whereas so many go without the things we have therefore it is right to respect them and not take them for granted. Thank You A huge thank you to the PTA for their generous donation of £4000 to the school. Every penny will go towards the running costs of the convent building. Red Nose Day Thank you for your support we raised a very generous £293.51 We had some extra ideas from the children: Y4 managed to get £10 out of Mrs Smith for a sponsored silence (of the class not Mrs Smith) Y6 did the same and Martin and Jacob in Y5 did a sponsored bike ride and raised £20. Netball Final We played against 11 other schools in the Area Finals on Wednesday at The Gilberd School. The team was absolutely brilliant and did us proud. We lost 2 of our games and came 3rd. Lauryn was chosen unanimously by the umpires for a special award of Player of the Day for her skill and good sportsmanship. Excellent! Well done to Lauryn, Maja, Jacob, Isobel, Sarah, Sophie and Shannon. Netball Match The team also played away at Millfields School on Tuesday and won 22-0! This makes us top of the league and league winners. They played exceptionally well. Well done again! Tummy Bug If your child is ill please keep them at home for at least 24 hours, ideally 48 hours, after the last emission. This will help reduce the spread. Gymnastics Next week for the first time ever we are competing in a Gymnastics competition at St Helena’s school. We will be taking two teams from Year 2 and two from Year 4 and we have been practising hard – watch this space for Mr Peck’s report next week. Piano Assembly Some of our pupils will be putting on a short performance next week so that we can hear them play. I am already looking forward to it. |
